Part 2 - The Bunny Hoppers (cont.)
... Dak was one of the creative minds behind the 2004 SantaCon. (He had a little influence on the 2003 SantaCon, but he didn't actually go... literally speaking. didn't go.) Dak was one of the few that stepped up and organized the 2004 Santa event (A group of Gigsvillians making up the rest.) The Cacophony Society pretty much let the SantaCon take off on it's own, just as they did with Burning Man. It was out of their hands now. (Although, for now and forever, both events will always be known as Cacophony Events.) The 2004 SantaCon will be infamously remembered as the Santa [Monica] Death March. There was a 7 mile hike in 70+ degree weather, in their red fuzzy santa suits, from Santa Monica to Venice Beach which was part of the plan. Poor planing (although rumors have it that it was a carefully thought out prank.) Most Santas were pissed off about the hike. A good number appreciated it. Southern Californians don't walk enough apparently. But it is believed a majority had a great time. Will there be another one? who knows. I doubt that Mr. Ultimak will get involved with its planning. Not that anyone will let him. But you never know. You never know because he was one of the minds behind the first LA Bunny Hop. Joe was gonna make the Bunny Hop happen with or without help. Dak being part of the Metro Route planning of the 2003 SantaCon used his experience to help Joe plan out the Bunny Hop route. About a month before Bunny Hop Dak Ultimak went on a last minute ride on the Metro. His friend, we'll use Chill as his name, asked about the Metroline. It was already about 10PM, they were already drinking cheap beer in cans as they were trying to visit home depot to get some tape for one of Dak's stupid projects. The Blidge, as it was called, was in need to get colored. But none of the Home Despots were open, so they went on a little ride on the Metro instead. Dak figured that there were a couple hours left on the route. Enough time to ride to Hollywood. So they parked at Mr.T's Bowl in Highland Park. One of the strangest venues in LA. The trees show up at 8AM to start on their daily rituals at a former bowling alley. The lanes are hidden by curtains. The vast space used for storage. The bands that play there can be anyone and everyone from Cline to Malkmus. to any number of unknown acts like the Signature Poses (defunct) and 8-Bit. But they have 10hour parking for $1, free after 6PM and all day sundays. So it's naturally one of the best places to start a day, or evening, of Metro bar-hopping. Dak & Chill took the train south to Chinatown and walked to Olvera Street. A bag full of warm Buds was their primary form of sustinance. A couple couches later, they had to head back and catch the last train to Mr.T's Bowl. A couple days later, Joe & Dak were doing the same thing except during the day. Effectively the recon for the LA Bunny Hop. ... to be continued
